Swansea University researchers in the College of Engineering have been contributing to the digital presentation of life aboard Henry VIII’s doomed flagship the Mary Rose, including a 3D scan of the skull of a carpenter with a nasty mouth abscess and head wound above his eyebrow. The website has public and research pages, the latter inviting analysis of how successful the 3D scanning technology is as a representation of the physical object.

Swansea has also presented the carpenter in more detail here including a 2D representation of his face, sadly without any visible signs of his infected jaw or dented skull. But given the pain he must have been in from the massive abscess, his expression might say it all…
